The 11.5" AAM axle in your 2500HD is rated for almost 11,000lbs by AAM.

RE: Michelin tire "experts"

The M/S has a little larger, more open tread design. For on road use they'd likely be a toss-up. If you ever venture into spots where you have dirt,or need a bit more traction,I'd go with the M/S.

I run a space heater for 15-20 minutes during the months I'm not using my Yamaha all the time. The space heater puts a decent load on the generator.

RE: REAL LT snow tires

How big of a tire are you running? They come up to 285s.
I'm running 265s up front, and 235s in the rear (same height, but maintains spacing).
BTW - Here's the M55 info page:
http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/18975.pdf
Yeah 285, but for a 16" wheel. What I want is something taller than 265/70/17 (I run a 17" wheel), especially something like 265/75, or 285/75.
The Coopers I have are similar to the Toyo MT, and they have too much sidewall flex.
I've been bugging Toyo about bigger M55s since I bought my truck 2 years ago. All they ever say is that they'll forward my request to the marketing dept.

RE: 2008 Dodge Ram Headlights Flickering?

Thanks guys. Those Cummins dealers are about 100 miles from me. I don't need one today but, I will indeed fire up the Ebay tonight when I get home and place an order. I have an Elk hunt in late December and it will be good to plug in the truck at night. So when you plug in on a cold night; come morning you're ready to go with minimal need to warm it up? Thanks.
The block heater doesn't heat the coolant much above 90-100 degrees or so. Of course it also depends on the outside temperature. The colder it is outside, the less its going to warm the coolant.
Overnight isn't neccessary. The heater is going to do all its going to,in a couple hours. Put it on a timer to kick on a couple hours before you want to drive it.

RE: 2008 Dodge Ram Headlights Flickering?

I just got off the phone with the local Dodge dealer. $75.97!
I guess they're desperately trying to keep afloat with their parts dept!
Where do I find a Cummins dealer?
Genos Garage has them for $12.

RE: 2008 Dodge CTD First Oil Change

I don't know if this is what Cummins recommends or not, but it is what is in the owners manual, mine is a 07 with the 6.7 Cummins.
I would recomend that you go with the servere service of 7500 miles for all oil changes. JMHO
Yea,its what Cummins recommends, Its right off their website.

RE: 2008 Dodge CTD First Oil Change

I do tow my 26' Puma with it so I will likely do it every 3k. I'll probably do it this coming long weekend. I called the local Dodge dealer and they charge $89. I figure I can do it myself for just under $50 even if I buy the filter from Dodge. I have a grease gun, a chain wrench, floor jack, stands-- the only thing is I have to check and see how many quarts my oil collector pan holds. I might have to buy a bigger one of those.
I don't trust people with something as major engine oil. Last summer I took my old truck in to the dealer for an oil change, and a few days later I crawled under there and it was obvious they hadn't removed the filler plug on the rear diff after they signed off the invoice that said "30+ point inspection or something like that!"
You can do as you wish, but a 3000 mile oil change is a waste of money. Cummins recommends a 7500 mile change under "severe" conditions and 15,000 under "normal"
If you want to keep things simple, change it at 5000 like your gas engines. 5000 is still unnecessary, but better than 3000.

Call Dave Smith in Idaho. They'll fly you up,sell you a truck and you can drive it back home. It'll be broken in and ready to tow when you get back.
I guarantee they'll have a mega-cab,and will excellent pricing to go with it.

RE: 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD Tire wear

I have been very careful to choose quality tires that are similar to what was on the truck and what is rated for the truck. Stick specifically with 10 ply.
Going up in tire size, will that alter speedo reading, or does today's computer adjust accordingly?
As for the trans, it is an Allison. Aren't these transmissions suppose to be hard as a rock?
Going up in tire size does alter your speedometer, but not always in a bad way. I went with 265/75/16s on my 2500HD and the speedometer actually became more accurate. I verified by GPS,all the way to 80mph.
As far as the Allison goes, its a good tranny, but not bullet proof. I had a couple issues with mine before I sold it. IIRC,the 48RE in the Dodge actually has fewer issues than the Allison. I'm sure the new 68RE in the Dodges will be the same way.

RE: 2001 , 002 , 003 , 004...Dodge 3500 , 6 Speed , 4x4 ??

The G56 6 speed standard (cast iron case) was used in 05 and later.
The previous 6 speed was a cast alum case NV5600.
Both are good trannies.
The engine design and power varied from 2001 - 2002 and 2003 and later though.
2001 and 02 were 24V engines that used the VP44 injection pump. The HO version that was only sold with a 6 speed manual, and made 245hp/505tq.
In 2003, the HO was 305 hp/555tq, and used the quieter more sophisticated common rail design. In 2004.5 and later, all Cummins 5.9L engines used in Dodge trucks were 325hp/600tq, auto or 6 speed stick. Tq was bumped slightly to 610 for advertising purposes in 05 or 06, as the GM Duramax was 605tq.
You've got the cases on the trannys backwards. The NV5600 was cast iron, the G56 is aluminum.

RE: Air Pressure in LT's on Tahoe

For discussion purposes, I'll use these numbers for the same basic
sized tire, but different class (P vs LT).
A LT load rating E is 3,000 lbs at 80 PSI. So 1,500 lbs is at 40 PSI
A P load rating is say 2,000 lbs at 35 PSI. So 1,000 lbs is at 17.5 PSI
You realize that just because you cut the pressure in half, you're not cutting the capacity in half?
If you look at Goodyears inflation tables for a an "E" rated 265/70/17,you'll see that at 80psi the capacity is 3195lbs. If you drop the pressure in half, you only reduce the capacity by 1100lbs.

Maybe also consider the Pullrite Super 5th. It was between the B&W and the Pullrite when I bought mine. The Pullrite will also leave a clean bed if you buy their Super Rail system. I wouldn't have been happy with either, but the Pullrite was more readily available locally.

I have LT Michelins on my wifes Tahoe. They're 265/70/17s. I run 48psi in them. At 48psi they run very even, but are still soft enough to ride nice for her. She also picked up just over 1 mpg average, over running them at the factory 32.
